UNIVERSITY VISION CENTRE


T. Bruce Blair, O.D.

Dr. Blair is an El Paso native and a graduate of Burges High School and UTEP. Upon graduation from the University of Houston College of Optometry in 1980, Dr. Blair returned to El Paso and joined the practice of long-time El Paso optometrist Dr. Darwin Rice. Dr. Blair is a member of the American Optometric Association, Texas Optometric Association and is a member of and for many years served as President of the El Paso Optometric Society. Dr. Blair is involved in the community through programs such as Lions for Vision, through which he provides free eyecare for those in need. He also serves as an Elder in his church. Dr. Blair is married and has one daughter. In his free time he enjoys traveling and outdoor activities such as hiking,rafting, and SCUBA diving.



John L. Ellis II, O.D.

Dr. Ellis has lived in El Paso most of his life, graduating from Austin High School and the University of Texas at El Paso. He attended Oklahoma City University for his Masters in Business Administration and the University of Houston College of Optometry for his Doctor of Optometry Degree. After returning to El Paso, Dr. Ellis joined the practice of Dr. R. Hugh Hall, who established his practice in El Paso in 1940. In January of 2003, Dr. Ellis merged his practice with Dr. Blair's and moved to the present location at University Vision Centre.

Dr. Ellis is married and has five children. He is a past board member of Prevent Blindness, Texas, a member of the El Paso Five Points Lions Club, the Five Points Development Association, Knights of Columbus, and Lions for Vision.

His professional associations include the American Optometric Association, Texas Optometric Association, and El Paso Optometric Society, of which he is a Past President.



Michael F. Maldonado, O.D.

Dr. Maldonado is a native El Pasoan and a graduate of Montwood High School. He became a certified optician shortly after, and continued to work in the field while he attended Baylor University, where he graduated with a degree in Biochemistry. Dr. Maldonado then obtained his Doctor of Optometry degree at the Interamerican University of Puerto Rico. Dr. Maldonado is active in the community, volunteering his time to organizations such as Lions for Vision, Prevent Blindness, Visionaries, and the Pre-Optometry Professional Society at UTEP. He is a member of the AOA, TOA, and is the current President of the EPOS. Dr. Maldonado is also fluent in spanish.



Mark Stevens, O.D.

We sadly mourn the passing of our friend, Dr. Mark Stevens. Doctors Blair and Ellis are committed to continuing the high standard of care that Dr. Stevens provided for you here at University Vision Centre.



OUR STAFF

Our staff is headed up by our office manager Luis, a board certified optician with over 25 years experience in the optical industry. Tess is our assistant office manager and our insurance and billing expert. Robert, with over forty years of optical experience, is our optical manager and works with Erlinda and Veronica in the optical. Rosa and Jennifer are our reception specialists. Estela has many years of experience in the clinical and contact lens areas, and supervises our clinical technicians Vivian, Roxanne, Marco and Martha. Most of our staff is bilingual and are ready to help you in any way they can.
